One day last week my older son schemed with his little brother how to avoid their daily quiet time.  This is an hour or so break each day around 2 o’clock where they sit quietly with a blanket and a stack of books.  They don’t like the break from their play and often express their objection but it is non-negotiable, they usually NEED the rest.  This day Mommy was busy in a task and my oldest had noticed that the 2 o’clock hour was slipping by.  It’s very uncharacteristic of him to intentionally deceive (that’s the closest word I can think of to describe the offense) and his younger brother seized the opportunity to blow the whistle on his normally very compliant brother.  He was questioned by Mommy Read the rest of this entry »

How do you think a football team prepares in the week or so before Super bowl Sunday? I’m sure there is lots of practice, they watch video of their opponent in action, work on improving in their weak areas, eat right and sleep well. I fondly remember writing my wedding vows 13 years ago and how I enjoyed crafting that declaration of love and pledge to my bride. With equal sincerity and commitment we promised each other in those early days to “always love God greater then each other.” There have been times over the years when I’ve needed to check myself on this. On a recent Sunday morning as I sat in church listening to the sermon my heart was captivated by our Pastor as he shared the story of his call to ministry and the Providential hand guiding his every step through that decision and process. Hearing the testimony of God meeting his every need spiritually, emotionally, and physically was inspiring and God glorifying. Read the rest of this entry »
